Scratch and sniff

I’m in a listing kind of mood, and out of deference to Urban Chick, I will try to keep this to a neat and tidy ten. Today (and in no particular order): My favourite smells.

1. Freshly grated ginger
2. Dark chocolate (must be over 70% cocoa solids)
3. Freesias
4. Scrumpy
5. Melting cheese
6. Newly cut pine
7. Really meaty gravy
8. Chinese five spice
9. Toast done on an open fire
10. Party poppers

at the risk of being a walking cliche, what about freshly ground coffee?

And honeysuckle in the evening.

wow - no-one has deferred to me before - i'm humbled

although if you really were being deferential in the style of, your list would run to 11 or 12 points (entirely erroneously)

ok, my fave smells: garlic and red wine (together) and the chicklets' heads when they were very wee

I'm with GSE. There is nothing finer that freshly ground coffee or that burst of scent you get when you open a package of vacuum packed coffee.

I love so many smells, I don't know if I could possibly make a small list.

I love many of the same as you but I don't know what Scrumpy is. Care to enlighten?

Scrumpy is very strong cider. It smells wonderful because it smells so strongly of apples (more than normal cider) but the alcohol gives it a sort of wintery, Christmas smell. In my opinion anyway.

The proper stuff from the West Country is like apple moonshine, and at top strength will probably get the oil spots off your driveway. Wonderful.

I'm with UC on those smells, although I have never met her children. But today I am mostly smelling, and enjoying, satsumas.

Freshly laid tarmac. Elnett hairspray. Lavender in full flower. The dusty smell after hoovering with the Dyson. My husband's neck. A newly opened box of teabags. Shalimar perfume. Leather.
